Breaking Ground: Building Understanding of the Colorado Academic Standards Conference with Keynote and Breakout Sessions
Your are cordially invited to a day-long professional development workshop funded in part by the National Writing Project, University of Colorado Denver, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Includes keynote address by Mark Overmeyer, interactive breakout sessions, and lunch.

When: February 11th from 8:45 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Conference takes place in the Tivoli Building on the Auraria Campus.
Who: Secondary teachers in any discipline who wish to build confidence with and understanding of the Colorado Academic Standards.
Keynote Speaker: Mark Overmeyer
Mark Overmeyer, who has more than twenty-five years of teaching
experience, currently works as a literacy coordinator and coach in the
Cherry Creek Schools near Denver, Colorado. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate program at the University of Colorado at Denver, where he co-directs a National Writing Project site. Mark has consulted with several school districts to create curriculum maps based on the new Colorado Academic Standards.
In his keynote address, Mark will discuss how the new Colorado Academc Standards/Common Core Standards align rigorous literacy expectations for all grade levels and content areas. Mark will address how the writing standards align with research about the kinds of writing we should be doing in schools to prepare students for their future career or college plans.
